Hi ed

I see on the Chelsea page laporte has agreed a move elsewhere am I right in thinking that it is Man city which is why I'm on this page

If I am correct would that rule man city out going for John Stones or would they be willing to take both

Thanks

discountdave

{Ed001's Note - it is City that have agreed a Laporte deal, but his injury has meant they are looking to add Stones as well. From what I have been told out here, by someone who knows the owners very well, they are very confident of getting Stones. While that doesn't necessarily mean they will, as they are always confident in what they do, it does confirm that they are going to move to add him in the summer.

Personally, I think the chance to work with Pep Guardiola will clinch his signature.}

Thanks for info Ed! If City sign two more central defenders, does this have any implications for existing ones (obv Kompany is too injury prone now) such as Mangala and Otamendi - or are City just looking to stockpile? If they have Stones, Laported, Ot. And Mang, plus Gundagon/Thiago (presumably to replace Toure?) then they'll have one hell of a team! Out of interest, are there any other "premium" players that Guardiola wants to acquire?

Many thanks for your precious time!

{Ed001's Note - from what I can gather, Mangala and Otamendi are seen as different options. They are the brute strength to play alongside the ball player and 4 defenders are what the club is looking to run with. Kompany's injuries, which the club are working hard to fix, doing everything from changing his chairs and even his boots, make him a bonus player, so to speak. If he can get and stay fit, someone would be going then.

City would like to add a driving force midfielder, a Pogba or Arturo Vidal and a forward, though I have no idea who that could be, as Aubameyang looks set to hold out for a move to Real Madrid. Maybe Lewandowski or Benzema could be the answer there?}

Thanks for detailed reply Ed - so Stones and Laporte might compete for the "ball playing" CB and Otamendi/Mangala for the more brutish CB. Wonder if Stones will consider this before signing, given that he is potentially competing against potentially the best defender in the world?!

{Ed001's Note - possibly, you can never tell, but Pep does like to rotate a fair bit so he would get time.}

Ed001 is there anything new on this I believe last year the eds saying stones was very keen to work Mr mourinho do you think stones may prefer united with mourinho to city with pep?

{Ed001's Note - no, Stones, like most players, are caught up in the Pep 'myth' and would love to play for him.}

Hey eds

Are man city genuinely interested in otamendi or do you think his agent is putting pressure on man utd to hurry with a bid?

Or perhaps it's both

Cheers

{Ed002's Note - Otamendi was of interest to Barcelona, Zenit, Chelsea, Napoli, Manchester City and CSKA before a move to Valencia in January 2014 and a subsequent loan to Atlético Mineiro. As Otamendi has only effectively been playing in Spain since August 2014 a move in January was very unlikely - but he was of particular interest to Manchester United who had an offer rejected with both Manchester City and Real Madrid asking to be kept informed of his availability.}

Hey eds,

Do you think Liverpool are playing a dangerous game by rejecting man city's 2nd bid for sterling with the possibility of Man City not bothering with a 3rd bid or would Liverpool be happy to keep him for this season despite him wanting to leave

discountdave

{Ed001's Note - they have accepted he is going, I am sure a deal will be done now as the player wants to make it happen. Everyone agrees now he needs to move. It would be a major surprise if this deal did not get done.}

Cheers ed I just feel man City are getting their pants pulled down but an all round good deal for Liverpool

{Ed001's Note - they may be, but only time will tell on that.}

Ed001

I'm curious to know if you rate pep guardiola's training methods.

He seems to be very hands on very specific.

Is it high intensity and is there a possibility of the player burning out?

Thanks

If you done a write up about it just point me in the right direction.

{Ed001's Note - I just think he interferes too much. He is always there, looking over the shoulder of his players, constantly tinkering with their games. It is fine for a year or two, but it is like having a boss constantly in your ear criticising everything you do, it gets tiring and ruins your enjoyment. That is why teams go backwards under him over time. None of the players, as far as I can see, look any better than they did before he started working with him, he just buys better players than he had before.

His training methods just get the players drilled in an attacking sense the same way as say Pulis does defensively, rather than being all that innovative or special. It is just constant repetition of rondos etc.

I am not convinced players do burn out physically because of the training's intensity, more because the lack of true endurance training in modern football means they are simply not as durable as they were. They are more finely tuned, like strikers rather than long distance runners. It is all short burst stuff, so they don't have the physical capacity for longer term physical effort. That could easily be solved though, they can just give players more time off between games during the busy periods.}

{Ed001's Note - people like Sarri and Bielsa, they just don't have the quality of players to work with Pep gets handed on a plate. With the teams he has had, you would be disappointed if you didn't win the league without even coaching them, whereas neither Sarri nor Bielsa has ever had teams at that level. Sarri has coached his way up the Italian leagues, by coaching, not buying, to improve his teams. Bielsa's coaching turned Chile into a major force in world football and he really deserves the credit for all the success under his successors there.}

how well do you think sarri and bielsa will do in england ed, especially now sarri has a quality team to work with? have you done any manager profiles to go with your player ones? i think they would be interesting. i know you don't rate howe, i would love to get a full take on why. surely what he's achieved is quite increadible with the resources? must be a dream for a club like bournemouth, you stay safe in the league and get to watch attractive football, they're not very good defencively and susceptible to a few heavy defeats, but you see with teams in similar positions like palace and west ham they have dinosaurs in charge playing hoofball, try and change the philosopy to play attractive football, but can't get the results and panic and have to revert back to another dinosaur!

{Ed001's Note - I have added those two to my list of manager profiles to do. I haven't started on that yet but I intend to do so soon.

I expect Sarri to gradually do better and better, but he is trying to completely change the style of play and had a late start so it could take time. Next season is when I expect him to challenge for the title.

Bielsa has every chance of winning the Championship, though the Leeds squad is not the strongest, he will have them up and flying imo.

Howe has monster resources, Bournemouth have a Russian billionaire of their own backing them and he has only achieved by spending large sums. He still can't organise a defence, which is why they are so inconsistent. They should be fighting for Europe with a top class manager.}

thanks ed, i look forward to reading them and watching how they get on in england. ahh fai enough i didn't realize he had a billionaire backing him!
